The International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR) named the New South Wales Independent Casino Commission (NICC – Australia), Queensland’s Office of Liquor and Gaming (OLGR – Australia), and the Norwegian Gambling Authority (NGA) as the winners of the International Regulatory Award of 2023. 

A committee of independent stakeholders and trustees of the IAGR judges these awards, which the group announced in Botswana during its annual conference from 16 – 19 October 2023. The awards aim to recognize the accomplishments of exceptional regulators who help drive the industry forward. 

The NGA won the Regulatory Excellence Award 2023 for reducing problem gambling by 50% in its country. Atle Hamar, the general director of the Norwegian Gambling and Foundation Authority, accepted the award. 

The OLGR won the Best Regulatory Campaign Award 2023 for its effective campaign that focused on addressing gambling harm in Australian First Nation communities. The campaign helped increase awareness and reduce stigma around problem gambling. 

The NICC won the Regulatory Innovation Award 2023 for its innovative approach in responding to the evolving industry changes while regulating the casino gaming industry in New South Wales, Australia. 

The IAGR also announced at its annual congress that Ben Haden and Caroline Kongwa will take over as its new president and vice president, respectively.
