The United Gambling Commission (UKCG), the highest gambling authority in the country, has suspended the operating license of Goldchip Ltd.

Without disclosing too many details, the authority said that the suspension resulted from concerns that Goldchip may have carried out activities which go against the UK Gambling Act of 2005.

The UKGC also mentioned concerns about social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings as reasons which led it to reach its decision.

The suspension comes into effect immediately.

“We have made it clear to the operator that during the course of the suspension, we expect it to focus on treating consumers fairly and keeping them fully informed of any developments which impact them,” said the UKGC in a statement which it issued around the events.

It’s important to note that players are still allowed to access their accounts at sites run by Goldchip Ltd, such as Goldchip.com, and withdraw their funds.

A review on the matter will now be carried out (in accordance with Section 116 of the Gambling Act).

In recent weeks, the UKGC has made the news for its tough stance on activities which go against the Gambling Act.

Only last week, the authority ordered two providers to pay settlements of hundreds of thousands of pounds for anti-laundering and social responsibility failings.

Progress Play and Jumpman Gaming – which, between them operate 444 websites – were ordered to pay a total of £675,000 in settlements, not including investigations costs.
