Playtech, the popular online gaming software developer and supplier, has announced that it has at last, after many months of negotiations, become the first company to apply to the fledging Jersey Gambling Commission for a remote gambling license.

According to the island’s Jersey Enterprise business support and advice service Playtech’s application was a gigantic step forward in the British Crown dependency’s iGaming program.

Mor Weizer, Chief Executive Officer for Playtech said he is thrilled to be looking into obtaining an operating license in Jersey and added that the Jersey authorities met with them in Israel during last year and assured them of the merits of the new licensing authority and how committed they were to the sector.

Weiser feels that it is important for them to seek a license in Jersey in order to support their many customers who have operations in the Channel Islands from a regulated jurisdiction.

The fact that operators who are licensed in Jersey were not permitted to advertise in the United Kingdom resulted in its efforts to establish itself as a serious e-gambling licensing jurisdiction being hampered. Although efforts are being made to reverse the situation, Jersey is currently not included on the UK’s “white list” of jurisdiction that allows gambling services to UK gamblers being advertised.

Alan Maclean, Economic Development Minister for Jersey said that the license application from a leading company like Playtech gives a stamp of approval for Jersey’s new iGaming industry.

Playtech and the Jersey Gambling Commission are at present working together in order to ensure that all the provisions of the Remote Gambling (Jersey) Regulations of 2008 are met.
