Spelinspektionen, the Swedish gambling regulator, has slapped an SEK 35,000 fine (around $3,600) on Bayton Limited for failing to report a change in its board of directors. Bayton operates top online casino brands such as Ruby Fortune Casino, Jackpot City Casino and Spin Casino.
According to the gambling authority, Bayton did not report that one of its board members had resigned and had been replaced by someone else. Bayton said that it had prepared the report about the change, but it had never been sent in due to an “internal error”. It assured the regulator that this would not happen again and would make sure to update its compliance teams about the importance of these rules.
The Swedish gambling regulator accepted that there was no intention to deceive the authorities and therefore deemed the violation as “less serious”. Nonetheless, it wanted to stress that the rules were important to follow and therefore requested that the company pay a fine.
This is not the first time that Bayton has been on the authority’s radar. Last year, the group was requested to make updates to its KYC (Know Your Customer) identification process, after the Spelinspektionen found that the procedures found on the brand’s online casinos were not comprehensive enough.
Sweden is considered to have some of the strictest online gambling rules in the world.
