After multiple rollovers, a Powerball Plus lottery jackpot prize was finally hit in South Africa.
According to a media statement made by South Africa’s National Lottery operator, Ithuba, the jackpot winner won over R94 million ($6 million) in the April 8th draw.
The ticket was played using a quick pick selection and the winner spent only R45 ($3) on the winning ticket.
Ithuba explained that the winner still had a whole year to come forward and claim the prize. A team of financial advisors and psychologists work with the winner and is on hand to offer financial advice and even trauma counselling, if necessary, at no cost to the winner.
Winners have 365 days to claim their prizes before the tickets expire.
Some players wait a few months before claiming their prizes, either because they want to let the news sink in first, or they want to time the prize-giving for holidays or other special occasions.
Ithuba advised winners not to let too much time lapse before they claim their prizes, however. They said that they risk losing or damaging their tickets this way, and may not be able to take home their prizes if they do.
A R20 million winning ticket is set to expire in a month and Ithuba has asked Lotto Plus players to check their tickets before it’s too late.
