It was a bumper month for the Colorado sports betting industry, with numbers showing that consumers in the state wagered $573.7 million in January 2022
This beat the previous record set in October 2021, with a rise of 16.7%.
Highlights of the January 2022 report issued by the Colorado Department of Revenue showed:
- Revenue from sports betting in January amounted to $34.6 million.
- Year on year amount spent by players was 75.5% higher, and 24.3% up from the previous month (December 2021).
- The most popular sports wagered on was basketball which saw $163.3 million in total bets made. Trailing was football ($141 million) and college basketball ($62 million).
- Players spent $90.2 million on parlay betting.
- Gross gaming revenue from sports betting was $34.6 million – nearly 50% higher than January 2021 and 40.1% higher than December 2021.
- The state generated $1.4 million in tax from sports wagering throughout January.

The most throught-provoking fact that came out of the January 2022 report, however, was the incredible popularity that online sports betting enjoys in Colorado.
Online wagers amounted to $567.1 million in January, compared to just $6.6 million in bets made at retail sportsbooks across the state.
