The New York sports betting industry generated $125 million in January alone, essentially lining the state up to be the best earning in the United States in 2022.
New York’s gambling authority, the NY Gaming Commission, gave data showing that within the first 24 days of operating, the state’s online sportsbooks took in $1.67 billion out of the total $1.69 billion accepted overall through online and retails books.
In the first 24 days of January, 2022, an average of just under $70 million was wagered per day online in New York.
According to industry analysts, New York has broken all records for wagers placed in the first month of operation by a state.
Mobile sports betting went live on January 8th in New York, planned so that punters could bet on the NFL playoffs.
New York’s tax rate of 51% on its sports betting industry is one of the highest tax rates in the country and, as a result, raked in $63.3 million in taxes for the state government in January.
