The US Attorney for Mississippi has revealed that two men from South Mississippi, Russell B. Miller and Christopher U. Anthony have been included in illegal online gambling offenses that was earlier charged against Diamondhead bookmaker, Kenneth Schmitt, who pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge Dec.20 and is currently out on bail. The two were charged by the United States Attorney’s offices in documents filed on Tuesday, 3rd January 2017 in the federal court.
The charges relate to Miller and Anthony’s activity via Costa Rica websites with the US Attorney claiming that they travelled to Costa Rica on 24th April 2014 in order to deliver a payment to a person who set up gambling websites for illegal sports books. The US Attorney has revealed that both Miller and Anthony now face federal charges of conspiracy to transmit wagering information.
According to court documents, Miller has been involved in the conspiracy for almost seven years, from September 2009 whilst Anthony’s involvement is alleged to have begun on 4th April, 2014.
Schmitt, Miller, Anthony and others have been accused of conspiracy to transmit wagering information and to keeping the online betting confidential in order to protect gamblers from being identified. It is alleged that their crimes occurred in Diamondhead and Biloxi.
According to court documents, the bets primarily involved football.
The American Gaming Association’s announcement last year that it will lobby Congress for legalized and regulated Sports Betting in the United States has resulted in more arrests being made elsewhere in the nation.
