Letisha Ellis, a 12 year old deaf swimmer and member of the Microgaming sponsored Isle of Man Para Swimming team, has managed to break a five year old British age group record.
Letisha set the new Great Britain deaf swimming record in the 12 years’ 50-metre freestyle event twice in a matter of weeks and is the first member of team Microgaming Isle of Man Para Swimming to break a British age group record.
Microgaming Isle of Man Para Swimming team has seen a fantastic couple of years with Letisha Ellis and her fellow swimmers, Beg Grainger and Tom Callister all winning British medals last year.
Letisha bettered that achievement at the British Junior Para Champs in Sunderland by recording a record time of 31.84 seconds, which was a five-year standing record. In July, she improved her own record during the Microgaming Sprint event at the National Sports Centre by clocking in at 31.70 seconds.
Letisha’s parents revealed that, as parents, they never thought that it would be possible for her to achieve what she had due to her hearing loss but that she has proved to them, coaches and peers, what she is truly capable of.
Her parents went on to say that to find out that she had broken the GB deaf swimming record in the 50m freestyle at the Sunderland para championships was amazing. They added that she did it again at the Microgaming sprints.
Microgaming became the title sponsor of the Isle of Man Para Swimming team in 2015, and contributed towards the cost of the pool, coaching and travel.
