The Microgaming Soapbox Race, which took place on Saturday, 3rd September 2016, was a fun filled fundraiser that raised an amount of £2,270 for Hyperbaric IOM from fantastic donations and entry fees on the night.
David Downie (MBE), of Isle of Man Hyperbaric, revealed that they are incredibly grateful to be the event’s chosen charity partner. He added that IOM Hyperbaric relies heavily on public donations to treat over 15,000 local patients each year for a vast variety of medical conditions and that this donation will make an invaluable difference.
Twenty-nine karts of all shapes and sizes took to the streets from Upper Church Street, despite drizzle and grey skies, treating punters to a unique scene of a sunshine-yellow skip, a batmobile and a wheelie bin hurtling towards Barrack Street. A beer “fueled” design from Hooded Ram – local brewers, and a tenderly crafted VW camper was amongst other innovations.
Head of Microgaming PlayItForward, Claire Coleman, commented on the race by saying that it is brilliant to be a part of what is fast becoming an iconic event on the island’s events calendar. She added that despite some murky weather the atmosphere was anything but downcast and they were really pleased to see such an enthusiastic turnout on the day. She went on to say that the fact that people continue to support and enjoy the event makes all the difference to the critical work done by IOM Hyperbaric.
Scarbo IOM won the award for best turned out kart while DC Skips won the Scrapheap Challenge.
