Microgaming is using the ICE Totally Gaming 2015 event to celebrate 10 years since it launched the Tomb Raider brand following the signing of an exclusive deal with Eidos in the year 2004.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was Microgaming’s first branded online slot game and represents the longest running brand partnership in the industry.
The online slot was an immediate success upon its release and has remained extremely popular for the past decade.
Microgaming later developed the branded Lara Croft: Tomb Raider online slot game in J2ME for use on mobile with Web app, Android and HTML5 versions following. This resulted in the game reaching across mobile and tablet devices. Microgaming also configured the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider online slot game in order for it to be used in a tournament environment when it launched its multi-player software in 2007.
Following the tremendous success of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider online slot, Microgaming released a sequel to the slot in 2008, Lara Croft: Secret of the Sword which saw players going off on a mission to track down fragments of a lost sword.
Roger Raatgever, the Chief Executive Officer of Microgaming, revealed that the Tomb Raider brand is instantly recognizable and that when they signed the licensing agreement back in 2004, they were, therefore, incredibly excited. He added that as the industry’s first branded slot game, they knew that the game would be popular and that it has now become a Microgaming classic.
