Great news for fans of Microgaming’s most iconic games series, Tomb Raider. The online casino software developer has announced that, after renewing its 15-year partnership with Square Enix, it will be rolling out the third slot game in the series. The new game will be developed exclusively for Microgaming and Square Enix by the independent games studio, Triple Edge Studios, and will be introduced to the industry at this year’s ICE gaming conference.
In 2004, after signing a licensing agreement with Square Enix, Microgaming released the industry’s very first branded slot game, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Riding on the incredible success of the game, Microgaming released its sequel in 2008, Tomb Raider: Secret of the Sword. Since then, Microgaming players have reported that these two titles are among favorite games of all times, and they constantly appear in slots tournaments, promotions and special offers due to their popularity.
“We are incredibly excited to announce the renewal of our historic partnership with Square Enix to develop a new Lara Croft online slot game that honors and builds on the brand’s massive popularity in the gaming industry, film and beyond,” said Andrew Clucas, Chief Operating Officer at Microgaming. “2019 is our 15th anniversary with the brand and we plan to celebrate the unprecedented milestone with a wave of big reveals on another show-stopping stand at ICE.”
Also commenting was Janet Swallow, the Vice President of Licensing at Square Enix West, who said that the group looked forward to a continued partnership with Microgaming “to develop another successful branded online slot game, following the top performances of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider™ in 2004, which marked the industry’s first ever branded slot partnership.
