The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission (MLGCC) recently approved two more Sports Betting licenses to Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin and Hollywood Casino in Perryville after they both met the necessary requirements for sports wagering licenses in the Old Line State.

The pair have joined three other approved applicants – the Live Casino & Hotel in Hanover, the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore and MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill to await approval from the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC), the group that actually awards the licenses.

John Martin, the Director of the Maryland Gaming Commission issued a press release wherein he commented that they have approved five facilities, and their work is ongoing.

Martin went on to say that they will continue sending applications to the SWARC so that it can make awards and sports wagering can launch by late fall.  He added that it is what the public wants and expects, and they are doing everything they can to deliver it.

However, the date of the following SWARC meeting is still unknown.

A scheduled 14th October meeting was just postponed by the SWARC and SWARC representatives have at this point in time not given any indication as to why the meeting was delayed.

Governor Larry Hogan said that no one is pushing harder than him to get sports betting up and running in the State of Maryland

Governor Hogan also said that with Marylanders looking forward to betting on the NFL and March Madness, they now expect the legislature’s Sports Wagering Applicant Review Commission to swiftly approve these licenses.
