The Microgaming powered online casino gambling site, Gaming Club Casino, issued a press release this week, celebrating the growth of the Italian gambling market, of which it is a part.
According to the Gaming Club Casino, Italy’s online poker sector has grown larger than any other country in the European Union. Until 2009, it was the UK which dominated the online poker market, but with new laws and changes in Italy, the picture changed in 2010.
When laws first came into effect in Italy, local gamblers were only allowed to play online poker tournaments, however, starting from July last year, new laws permitted real money online poker. It is estimated that substantial growth will continue to take place in the Italian market until at least 2014.
