GamCare is well-known in the UK as one of the leading independent organizations providing treatment and support for people affected by problem gambling and their families and loved ones. But apart from that, the independent charity, founded in 1997, also works to encourage an effective approach to responsible gambling among operators.

GamCare’s Safer Gambling Offerings

Dan Whitlam, GamCare’s Head of Industry Standards, recently shared what the organization has done so far in terms of helping gambling businesses improve their safer gambling processes and measures.

GamCare’s headline product, the Safer Gambling Standard, offers a way to identify which operators are putting safer gambling at the forefront of their operations.

Gaming businesses are assessed according to a set of criteria and are then given a rating from Base Level up to Advanced Level 3. In doing the assessments, GamCare also provides recommendations on how operators to go above and beyond in protecting players and complying with their responsible gambling obligations.

Whitlam also highlighted their new product called “SG Labs” wherein they help operators find solutions to certain problems or issues by offering them different perspectives from people with lived experience of gambling harm.

GamCare Monitoring Affordability Issue

Whitlam acknowledged that GamCare’s main focus is on providing problem gambling treatment and support but he also emphasized the organization’s commitment to helping improve safer gambling practices within the industry. He said they’re also monitoring developments in the ongoing gambling review, especially in the area of affordability which he said will likely have a huge impact on safer gambling practices.
