The Oregon Lottery Commission has shifted away from its traditional Scoreboard sports betting platform and plans to migrate to the DraftKings platform. As such, the state’s sportsbook product will operate under the DraftKings brand.
Talks have been ongoing since 2019 about transitioning from the SBTech platform to DraftKings, but it was only finalized at a Commission meeting last week. It was unanimously approved by all four members of the Commission.
“There are a number of business benefits in terms of simplifying some of the structure and there are player benefits as the experience will be improved on the new platform,” explained the executive director of the Oregon Lottery Commission.
The Lottery has promised to make the transition as seamless as possible so as to avoid potential loss of revenue and the disruption of operations.
One of the possible obstacles would be that Oregon Lottery customers will need to re-register for a DraftKings account once the transition has been complete. As a result, some clients may avoid moving and look elsewhere for a new sportsbook platform.
Pack explained that the current SBTech sportsbook platform is similar to European designs, but the US players prefer the DraftKing design. This was an important factor when deciding on the move, he said.
In July 2021, players bet $18.2 million pm the Scoreboard platform. After payouts, the Lottery pocketed $2.2 million.
