The professional poker pro, Tony G. (Antanas Guoga) has won the biggest pot in online poker history. The massive $7.75 million win took place at the cryptocurrency based CoinPoker which regularly attracts high stakes poker players.

The big win was achieved in a $5K/$10K Pot-Limit Omaha game with two other players up against Tony G: HannibalGetya and Chattahoochee.

The online poker room was already on everyone’s radar after Tony G. and Leon Tsoukernik (King’s Resort owner) played for a $1.8 million pot last month. Since then, multiple $2 million pots and six-figure flips have taken place at the site. High profile players such as Laszlo Jujtas and Timofey Kuznetsov have added to the action and players are flocking to CoinPoker to watch as things unfold.

Tony G. has long advocated for a greater use of cryptocurrency in the online gaming sphere. As a politician with the European Parliament, he has spoken in favor of Bitcoin, and has established a blockchain center in Lithuania, where he was born.

He has appeared on ESPN’s World Series of Poker broadcasts and during his poker career he’s made five WSOP final tables and cashed 20 times for over $1.6 million during the series. He has also cashed over half a million dollars in the World Poker Tour. During casino tournaments, he has raked in more than $7.6 million.

Benjamin Flanagan will not forget August 26, 2022 as he triggered a record bad beat jackpot in a $1/$3 no-limit hold’em game that took place at Rivers Casino. The West Virginia resident held quad aces only to be defeated by the royal flush of Raymond Broderson, leading to a $1.2 million bad beat jackpot, the biggest in US live poker history.

Winner Takes Home $490,708

Flanagan, being the player who lost the hand, walked away with the largest share of the jackpot, worth $490,708, while Broderson took home $368,029. The other four remaining players at the table had Flanagan to thank for as they too benefited from the outcome of the hand, each winning $61,338.

Seven-Figure Bad Beat Jackpots Not New

The $1.2 million recently awarded at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh is by far the largest bad beat payout in the US, but it wasn’t the first seven-figure jackpot to be hit. In 2018, a $1,068,590 bad beat jackpot was also triggered at Motor City Casino in Detroit.

In 2017, the Playground Poker Club in neighboring Canada paid out $1,210,989 in total jackpot after Elphege Delarosbil lost his quad jacks to the straight flush of Shane Galle. Then just in June, the same poker room awarded $2.2 million in bad bead jackpot, and the player who triggered it won a hefty $845,000.

Last month, the Isle of Man-based online casino software and games developer, Microgaming, delighted its players with the release of new Lucky Showdown Hold ‘em Poker casino game.

Microgaming usually releases multiple new slot games every month, but the release of a casino poker game is not a common occurrence.

Now, one month later, and players are reporting on a fun and exciting game that gives them a chance to win a prize of over $50,000!

Lucky Showdown Hold ‘em Poker has a popular Western theme and fans of the Wild West are particularly enchanted with the game.

What also makes it special is that up to three players can be at the table simultaneously. Larger prizes will be split between players and if not, the winner takes it all.

The rules of Showdown Hold ‘em Poker are very straight forward, but Microgaming has given this version its special touch with its trademark animations, excellent graphics and fun features.

Last year, following the closure of the Microgaming Poker Network, the group offered players a new way to enjoy poker through the launch of a full suite of exclusive poker games. The first game was Hold ‘em Poker, and this has been followed by the latest Showdown Hold ‘em Poker.

“Hold’Em Poker will add a new dimension to our online casino vertical, introducing a range of fun and exciting poker games to our platform,” said John Coleman, the CEO at Microgaming. “Designed to appeal to both poker and casino players, these games will deliver even further choice to our customers as we continue to diversify and innovate our content offering.”

A court case that started in 2015, when PokerStars was ordered to pay $290 million to the state of Kentucky, has finally come to an end. Flutter Entertainment, parent company to PokerStars, agreed to pay a $200 million settlement to the Commonwealth, and also forfeit $100 million that was placed in bond.

In 2015, Judge Thomas Wingate ordered the online poker room to pay the massive fine, after he found the site guilty of providing unlawful online gambling services to state residents between 2006 and 2011. When the case was reinstated in 2018, the Supreme Court increased the fine to $870 million. The Court of Appeals ruled in PokerStars’ favor in 2019 and waived the fine, although that decision was appealed by the state and the fine was reinstated once more.

In the meantime, Flutter Entertainment purchased The Stars Group in May 2020.

After years of going back and forth, and after it was raised to the Supreme Court this month, the state’s legal team and Flutter Entertainment agreed that it would be wiser to settle the case out of court.

According to a statement by Flutter, it was said that the group believes that this settlement agreement was in the best interests of its shareholders, and that it now considered the matter closed.
