Two Atlantic City casinos owned by Caesars Entertainment have announced that they joined New Jersey’s rapidly growing sports betting market this week while two more in Mississippi will do so later this month.
Bally’s Wild Wild West Casino in Atlantic City began taking sports bets from 11.00 a.m. EDT on Monday, 30th July 2018 while its sister casino in Atlantic City, Harrah’s Atlantic City commenced taking sports bets on Wednesday, 1st August 2018. The two properties follow the Borgata and Ocean Resorts in offering sports betting after it was legalized in New Jersey in May of this year.
Caesars Entertainment has revealed that it will soon offer Mobile Sports Betting and the Gambling Industry is watching closely to see which casino will be the first in New Jersey to offer online sports betting.
The first sports bet at Bally’s Casino was placed by Starlette Hedgepath of Halifax, North Carolina, who placed $100 down on the Dallas Cowboys winning the NFC title.
Hedgepath commented that after gambling until 5 a.m. and grabbing four hours’ sleep, a friend woke her and urged her to return to the casino floor in order to be there for the start of sports betting. She added that her bet on the Cowboys was her first sports bet “not counting one or two at the dog track in Florida”.
Harrah’s and Bally’s have become the third and fourth casinos in Atlantic City with sports betting, joining Borgata and Ocean Resort. Sports betting is also being offered by two Horse Racing tracks, Monmouth Park in Oceanport and the Meadowlands in East Rutherford.
