MGM Resorts has announced that it has entered into an agreement with leading Major League Baseball club the Boston Red Sox in terms of which it will become the baseball team’s official and exclusive resort casino.
According to a press release, the multi-year partnership will see the casino operator having a strong presence in and around the Red Sox MLB franchise with visible messaging behind home plate, Red Sox radio as well as other team controlled media outlets.
The agreement signed by the parties will also see the company having exclusive access to ‘one-of-a-kind’ fan experiences at Fenway Park, one of the most iconic ballparks in baseball. The MGM Springfield casino venue will also host a number of promotional experiences throughout the year, including the Red Sox annual Baseball Winter Weekend event.
MGM Resorts’ $960 million integrated casino resort opened in Springfield, Massachusetts in August of last year and is about a 90-minute drive from the historic ballpark on a good traffic day.
Other gaming-related branding has been displayed at Boston’s Fenway Park in the past.
Last season saw Fenway’s iconic Green Monster (the 37 foot left field wall) decking a Foxwoods Resort Casino logo. The gaming property is owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Native American tribe in neighboring Connecticut.
MGM’s decision to partner with the Red Sox and Fenway shows how important it is for casino operators to obtain the largest market share possible in the growing gaming region.
