Betclic becomes the latest sports betting operator to join the sponsorship portfolio of the Portuguese Basketball Federation. The French group inked the three-year deal with the federation to strengthen its brand visibility in Portugal’s ever-expanding sports wagering sphere.
Under the terms of the deal, the Portuguese Basketball League will be rebranded as the Betclic League.
The deal comes into effect ahead of the upcoming sporting season.
According to Pureza Sousa, the country manager of Betclic Portugal: “Betclic’s entry as the main sponsor of the basketball league represents a firm step in our ambitions of wanting to bring to national sport a new paradigm of visibility that we have not been able to achieve in certain sports, namely basketball with the Betclic League.”
This is not Betclic’s first foray into the European sports sponsorship space. The bookmaker is the principal sports betting partner for France’s National Rugby League. The group sponsored the top-fight Top 14 league earlier this year in April.
In a separate deal, Betclic has been the official sports betting partner of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 French football for over a year.
In other Betclic news, it was recently reported that the group managed to lure two data heads from PokerStars. Both Joseph Wilkinson and Bernard Battistotti have joined Betclic’s growing data team to take charge of separate departments – data products and analytics.
