The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has suspended the UK Bingo and Online Casino licenses of Nektan, the British-facing B2C arm of the gambling business that was sold by administrators in early 2020, pending a formal investigation into the Gibraltar-based business.

This week the Gambling Commission revealed that the suspension follows an ongoing Section 116 review into the operator, as they suspect Nektan (Gibraltar) Limited has breached conditions of its license, that it is unsuitable to carry on the licensed activities and that the licensed activities are being or have been carried on in a manner which is inconsistent with the licensing objectives.

This has resulted in the regulator currently conducting a review into the license, which is due to be suspended until the review’s conclusion or ‘until such time as the operator can satisfy the Commission it is operating compliantly.

The UK Gambling Commission went on to say that they have made it clear to the operator that it must communicate effectively with its customers and that the suspension does not prevent it paying out winnings. He also said that the Gambling Commission will not comment any further whilst this investigation is ongoing.

The license suspension came into effect on 27th April 2021 and makes it illegal for Nektan (Gibraltar) Limited to offer gambling services via its websites which are listed on the Commission’s public register.

The original Nektan business went into administration last year and the UK B2C arm sold to Grace Media, part of the Active Win Group. Meanwhile its B2B arm was sold to Real Time Strategic Marketing Limited and re-branded as Markor Technology.

It has not been revealed whether the events that led to the license suspension occurred under the old or new ownership.
