The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has blocked multiple offshore gambling platforms and affiliate marketing websites for violating the country’s online gambling laws. The agency has been taking down rogue sites since 2019 to combat illegal gambling.
Blocked Sites Breached Australian Gambling Laws
Australian internet service providers (ISPs) have blocked several sites upon request from the ACMA. The sites, which include Win Paradise, Casino Moons, Gamblers Lab, Winnerama, LegitGamblingSites.com and Extra Vegas were found to have violated the country’s Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
The ACMA has so far blocked 568 illegal gambling and affiliate websites since it began the campaign two years ago. In August 2021, it intensified its campaign against illegal gambling by including in its blacklist affiliate sites that promote illegal gambling services and redirect customers to unauthorized platforms.
Play Only on Licensed Sites
The ACMA warned consumers not to fall for unauthorized gambling sites or services even if they look legitimate because chances are, they lack important customer safeguards and protections. This means players patronizing these sites risk losing their hard-earned money.
The authority urged Australians to refer to its register of licensed gambling sites and betting services to make sure they’re playing on the right platform.
