The Montana Lottery Commission, which was chosen by the state to be the official overseer of legal sports betting, has still not fired the opening shot for the industry to begin operating. The MLC has already issued licenses to 142 operators, but as of today, was still putting finishing touches to the infrastructure. It is hoped that legal sports betting in Montana will go live next week.

Among the things that the MLC wants to ensure is that all staff are sufficiently trained. According to license requirements, a business has to make sure that its staff is qualified to operate sports bet kiosks before the property can offer its services to players.

According to Montana’s sports betting legislation, any business that holds a liquor license is allowed to apply for a license to install a Sports Bet Montana gambling kiosk.  There are over 1,400 of these businesses, although obviously not all will apply for license.

Montana also gives its citizens the opportunity to place bets online. The gambling apps will only work at a Sports Bet Montana location, which removes the option of mobile betting from the comfort of one’s home. However, the advantage of mobile sports betting in Montana is that it allows wagers of up to $1,000, compared to maximum wagers of $250 at land-based kiosks.
