Delaware will be the first new state in the US to offer punters sports betting outside of Nevada since New Jersey pushed the sports betting issue to the Supreme Court resulting in the Supreme Court’s decision on 14th May 2018 to throw the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act out of court. This makes Delaware the third state in the Union to offer sports wagering
Delaware will now offer punters legalized sports betting after Governor John Carney signed the bill into law.
Delaware beat other states such as West Virginia, Mississippi, and New Jersey that were also seeking to offer comprehensive sports wagering like Nevada, which had a waiver under PASPA to take such bets.
The Delaware Park, Harrington Raceway & Casino and the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino have now all been sanctioned to begin the sports wagering which will commence at 1.30 pm on Tuesday, 5th June 2018.
Governor Carney commented on the passage by saying that Delaware has all the necessary legal and regulatory authority to move forward with a full-scale sports gaming operation, and they are eagerly looking forward to the launch on Tuesday, 5th June 2018 when bets will begin being accepted.
Carney went on to say that they are hopeful that this will bring even more into Delaware to see first-hand what their state has to offer.
It would appear as though New Jersey is also aiming to begin offering Sports Betting this month, with other state reportedly following soon after.
