Recent moves by market leaders in fantasy sports, FanDuel and DraftKings has seen the season long fantasy gaming space becoming more crowded.
FanDuel launched “Friends Mode” this month which is a great new feature that takes on the bigger, more established “season-long” fantasy sports providers by giving users a chance to set up private, regular leagues to play against friends each week of the season.
Although this format is still “daily” fantasy with users drafting a new team by making it regular and closed for friends, it becomes a season-long structure.
FanDuel openly referred to the season-long nature of the new Friends Mode facility with Nigel Eccles, Chief Executive Officer of FanDuel driving the point home last week by referring to the product as “season long”.
Nigel Eccles, Chief Executive Officer of FanDuel, commented on the launch by saying that their business is growing and they are expanding into new areas. He went on to say that they are going to be competing directly against Yahoo, ESPN as well as other fantasy providers and that Friends Mode is going to transform Fantasy Sports.
DraftKings launched its “Leagues” product on Tuesday, 16th August 2016 which is a similar product to the new offering by FanDuel and competes directly with Yahoo following their incursion into the Daily Fantasy sports field with a hybridized, new “daily fantasy” in a season-long setting product which is titled the Yahoo Cup.
