Recent numbers published by the United Kingdom Gambling Commission show just how important the online gambling sector is to the growth of the country’s overall gaming numbers.

Online casino operators such as Microgaming contributed revenue worth GBP 5.3 billion to the total industry in the period spanning April 2017 to March 2018. The total revenue from the UK gambling market in that period was GBP 14.4 billion. All in all, online gambling makes up the largest part of the UK market at 37.1%, followed by betting (23%), the National Lottery (21%), land-based casinos (8%), bingo (5%), large society lotteries (4%) and arcades (3%).

Microgaming’s award-winning casino games, as well as casino games by other software groups, contributed to the bulk of online gambling revenue in the UK at just under GBP 3 million. Out of this online casino revenue, slots accounted for 69.1%, once again showing the growing popularity of slot games, including progressive slots, by Microgaming. Table games have a 14.5% share.

Another interesting statistic noted in the latest UKGC report was that 41% of operators who offer their products to the British market have their headquarters in the UK. 21% of them are based in Malta, and 7% each in the Isle of Man and Gibraltar.

The Isle of Man based Microgaming provides games to literally hundreds of casinos and gaming platforms, and has a particularly strong presence in the UK.
