According to figures released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board it has been revealed that the US state saw a 15 percent year on year rise in gambling revenue during August, 2017, which was partly due to the increase in sports betting activity.
Overall gaming revenue in Nevada amounted to $989.5 Million (€841.1 Million) in August of this year – up by more than $120 Million on the amount of $861.1 Million in the corresponding month in 2016.
The largest growth was experienced in the Strip area of Las Vegas where revenue was up by 21.35% year on year. However, it has also been revealed that North Las Vegas, Boulder Strip, Laughlin and Mesquite also saw a growth in revenue in the month.
Analysts commented on the impressive year on year growth by saying that it is due to a higher level of sports betting in the month, enhanced by the high profile boxing match that took place between professional boxer Floyd Mayweather and mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor.
The bout between the two fighters took place on Saturday, 26th August 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip, with Mayweather managing to come out on top of the match.
Despite the revenue figure showing a year on year increase it is, however, down on the amount of $998 Million that was collected in July of this year.
