Microgaming is proud to announce that it is continuing to mark 20 years since it first put down roots on the Isle of Man by teaming up with Manx Wildlife Trust in order to plant a ‘micro-forest’ within the south of the Island.

Since its arrival in the capital of the island in April 2001, the online gaming business has played an active role in the community through a vast range of charitable initiatives.

In an endeavor to get the micro-forest scheme off the ground, Microgaming not only donated more than 1,500 tree saplings but also coordinated a group of over 80 volunteers to plant the trees through its employee-led CSR program, PlayitForward.

Microgaming staff joined representatives of Manx Wildlife Trust on 8th and 9th October to plant the young trees on a grassy area the size of two tennis courts in Rushen, with many members of their families assisting them.

The miniature forest is made up of an assortment of native species that includes a large proportion of thorny shrubs such as hawthorn and wild roses, short-lived, fast growing native nurse trees such as aspen and birch as well as long-lived giants like the native oak.

John Coleman, Chief Executive Officer at Microgaming, commented that as they come to the end of their 20 year celebrations, he is proud that Microgaming can support a project that will benefit their island for many more decades.

Coleman thanked everyone who mucked in to bring the micro-forest to life and said that together, they have helped plant a legacy that will last for years to come.

Andree Dubbeldam, Conservation Officer for Manx Wildlife Trust, said the new micro-forest is the first piece of a massive nature jigsaw that will take shape on land owned by Rushen and Arbory Commissioners over the coming year.
