Evolution Gaming, masters of Live Dealer games, has released a modernized version of the ancient Asian bead game, Fan Tan. The 2,000-year-old game is based on the repeated division of beads and will be run out of Evolution’s live casino studio.
“Fan Tan is an ancient and largely forgotten about game, but we wanted to pay it respect with this fresh and modern version,” said Todd Haushalter, the Chief Product Officer at Evolution.
“We will introduce the game to a whole new generation of players, and it is a great way to entertain baccarat players when they are looking for an alternative to their main game.”
Fan Tan is an exceptionally popular game that is played in Macau’s casinos.
How Fan Tan is Played
- Players wager on a number between 1 – 4 (or any combination of them).
- Wagers are determined by the number of beads/buttons that remain after they have been separated by the dealer into groups of 4.
- The dealer places a ‘tan koi’ (metal bowl) over a portion of the bead pile to separate them.
- After players have placed their bets, the bowl is removed and a bamboo stick is used to group the beads into fours.
- A single group will remain which consists of 1, 2, 3 or 4 beads. This is the winning number.
