The UK gambling industry is currently waiting on the special commission to release a long awaited white paper that puts forward recommendations and potential amendments that will be made to the archaic 2005 Gaming Act review.
UK Will Soon Have New Gambling Ombudsman
One of the key suggestions that the white paper is expected to feature is to appoint a gambling ombudsman in the country. Given the growth of the UK gambling industry in the last few years, there are a number of issues that need a third party mediator to look into throughout the year.
The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) is the gambling regulator in the country but could very well do with some additional help with the appointment of a gambling ombudsman. The Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS) has made a strong push to be appointed as the new gambling ombudsman in the UK.
IBAS claims that it has both the operational and financial expertise to fill the role of the gambling ombudsman. IBAS Managing Director, Richard Hayler said IBAS has resolved more than 85,000 gambling disputes in the last 25 years, accounting for more than 80 percent of gambling complaints in the UK.
