Kindred, operator of online gambling group Unibet, has been ordered by the Norwegian Gambling Authority to withdraw from the local gambling market. If they don’t stop offering their products, warns the regulator, Kindred will be fined NOK 1.2 million a day.

As far back as April 2019, the authority demanded that Kindred stop operating through its subsidiary Trannel International without a proper license.

Kindred appealed these demands and asked that the Ministry of Culture and Lottery Authority overturn them, however its request wasn’t granted.

Trannel has now requested that the Oslo District Court reconsider the ruling that Unibet isn’t allowed to operate in Norway, and the court has agreed to hear this request in May.

In the meantime, the Norwegian Gambling Authority issued a statement in which it said: “When a gambling company that operates illegally in Norway can earn NOK437m on its illegal activity within a year, we owe it to the Norwegian people to do what we can to stop the illegal activity.”

“The illegal gambling offer has not yet ended. We take that seriously. Therefore, the Authority warns that it will now make a decision on a coercive fine if Trannel does not stop offering illegal gambling in Norway.”
