Sky Vegas Casino has issued an official apology after it sent a free spins offer to players who had asked to be self-excluded from gambling at the site or receiving promotional material.
However, the UK Gambling Commission was less forgiving and fined the online casino £1.2 million for sending the promotional offer to over 40,000 self-excluded players.
The Flutter-owned Sky Vegas sent its “Bet £5, get 100 free spins” offer to players who were not supposed to receive them.
The promotion read: “Here at Sky Vegas, we love the unexpected. That’s right. Simply opt-in, spend £5, and claim your 100 free spins. The best part? Whatever you win is yours to keep – that’s the fun in fair.”
In the group’s apology, Flutter UK and Ireland chief, Conor Group said: “As soon as the error was identified, we ceased communications until the fault could be rectified, notified regulators, and apologized to the affected customers.”
The Commission said in a warning that the fine would have been much greater if Sky Betting had actually allowed anyone from the self-excluded list to use the promotion to gamble on its site.
