A total of 400 runners managed to cross the finish line at the Microgaming Isle of Man Marathon and Half Marathon that took place on Sunday, 13th August 2017.

Organized by the Isle of Man Veteran Athletes’ Club, the event took place in the North of the island and challenged runners under very hot conditions on a course that began at Mooragh Promenade in Ramsey and finished at Ballacloan Stadium.

First place in the men’s marathon was taken by former pro cyclist Christian Varley with a time of 2:43:58, whilst Sophie Cullen of St Theresa’s Athletic Club won the women’s marathon, finishing the course in 3:39:33.  The half marathon event was won by Jack Okell of Manx Harriers (1:16:07) and Sarah Louise Cumber of Halifax Harriers AC (1:25:18).

The 4 leg marathon relay, which was new to this year’s event, was won by KUTA Fitness, finishing with a time of 2:53:34.

The event was sponsored by Microgaming and also supported by a team of PlayItForward staff volunteers.

Microgaming PlayItForward Staff Volunteer, Jeriel Bacani, commented that it was a privilege to participate in such a fantastic event and even more rewarding to be able to assist the runners and be at the heart of the celebrations as they crossed the finish line.  He added that the event organizers did a fantastic job and volunteering alongside his Microgaming family made his first experience as a staff volunteer even more special.

This year’s “No Rest for the Wicked” series consisting of six different races in six days on the island, was kick started by the Marathon and Half Marathon.
